New editorial director starts 'exciting' role

A former regional editor has taken up an ‘amazingly exciting opportunity’ as the editorial director of a newspaper group in Scotland.

David Bourn, 46, has joined the Scottish Provincial Press in Inverness to oversee the company’s 15 weeklies and associated websites in the north of Scotland.

He was originally appointed to the role in April, joining SPP from the Hull Daily Mail, where he was deputy editor for the last 18 months.

Before that, David was editor of the Norwich Evening News for more than seven years.

Said David: “This is an amazingly exciting opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful parts of the British Isles for a company that is deeply rooted in the communities these titles have served for generations.

“Weekly newspapers have a unique and enviable role at the heart of their communities and my job is to make sure that continues to be the case.”

The newly-created role will give him overall responsibility for editorial operations and development in print and online.

Titles that will come under his oversight include the Inverness Courier, Highland News, John O’Groats Journal and Northern Scot.
