Midlands airports sponsor journalists’ ball

Two neighbouring airports have joined forces to sponsor an annual ball for journalists across the Midlands later this month.

Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport will co-sponsor the Midlands Press Ball which is being held on 29 October, while Barclays Corporate is also supporting the event.

The ball, organised by the Birmingham Press Club, was formerly known as the Birmingham Press Ball but was rebranded last year to reflect increasing interest from journalists in the East Midlands.

It will take place at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham and is one of the highlights of the social calendar for Birmingham Press Club.

Press Club vice-chairman Fred Bromwich said: “Our media awards now regularly attract entries from throughout the East and West Midlands.

“So we are delighted that our other major event of the year – the Press Ball – is maintaining its appeal amongst corporate supporters from both regions.”

Proceeds from the ball’s raffle will be divided between the airports’ main charities – Acorns and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance – while Barclays will match the money raised.

Birmingham Airport is already the main sponsor for the press club’s media awards while East Midlands Airport has supported the press ball for the last three years.
