The Hull Daily Mail has made a series of appointments to its senior editorial team after deputy editor David Bourn’s departure for a new role.

Former Norwich Evening News editor David started his new job as editorial director of Scottish Provincial Press in Inverness yesterday.

His job as No 2 to Mail editor John Meehan goes to 42-year-old Paul Hartley, previously assistant editor.

Meanwhile joining the Northcliffe daily in the assistant editor role is Jamie Macaskill, currently bureau chief of the Scottish Mail on Sunday.

Jamie, above left, has held his current position for six years, having previously worked for the Trinity Mirror-owned Sunday Mail and Daily Record.

He began his career on regional titles, first at the Evening Express in Aberdeen, then The Journal in Newcastle.

Said John: “Jamie will bring enormous know-how in news management and content development as well as a fresh perspective to our editorial operation. I am very much looking forward to him joining our excellent team.”

Jamie, 41, will take up his new role on 8 July.

Paul steps up to the deputy’s role after seven years in Hull, having previously held a number of newsdesk jobs.

John said: “Having worked closely with Paul over many years I know that he will seize this opportunity to make an even greater contribution to the development of the editorial team, our excellent portfolio of multi-media products, and the business as a whole.”
