Mag's second edition to be sent live from airport

A new magazine which launched it first edition earlier this month will publish its second one from a special event at Manchester Airport.

Manchester Matters was set up as an online and print-on-demand publication to try to fill the gap left after the closure of Crain’s Manchester Business.

The new monthly magazine has been created by former Manchester Evening News transport correspondent Alan Salter and has incorporated his online publication TransportMatters.

The second edition will be completed and sent live from the airport at an event to welcome the arrival of the world’s biggest airline when it touches down for the first time.

On 1 September, the airport’s first daily flight by Emirates of the Airbus A380 will land, which is expected to draw thousands of visitors.

Alan said: “The event just happens to coincide with our publication day. If we were a print-only magazine, we would be looking at either reporting it a month late or even forgetting it altogether.

“But because of the flexibility of our Myebook platform, it means that I can complete publication armed only with laptop and an internet connection.

“It is very exciting to be able to beat the traditional media to such a big story for Manchester.”

The magazine has now made its first senior appointment, with Malcolm Handley becoming the travel editor.

Alan added: “I first met Malcolm on a Eurostar train when they were still a novelty. His experience of travelling the world and his writing talent will serve us well.”

Manchester Matters uses the Myebook publishing platform which offers screen page-turning, audio and video.
