Health reporter praised at company awards

A ‘dedicated and thorough’ regional press health reporter has been honoured at an awards ceremony held by her company.

Naomi Gornall, who writes for the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich’s Evening Star, was named the Editorial Person of the Year at an Archant Suffolk award ceremony.

She was presented with the award by managing director Stuart McCreery for her hard-hitting exclusives and high-quality work, with judges saying she has a ‘big future’.

Naomi and other winners will go forward to a company-wide ceremony in the New Year.

  • Naomi is presented with her award by MD Stuart McCreery.
  • Also praised at the event was the new Felixstowe edition of the Evening Star, which was launched in June and won the Innovation or New Launch of the Year category.

It was created after research identified the potential to grow sales in the area and the success has been noted by newsagents in the town, where sell-outs have been reported.

Mr McCreery said: “The ideas, the application and delivery of the Felixstowe edition and FX supplement stood out as a success as it needed full co-operation across departments.”

    Other winners included:

Product or Service of the Year
East Anglian Daily Times Saturday edition

In March, the Saturday edition became the first Archant title to charge £1, which was said to be supported by product improvement and a strong marketing campaign, and it is now the best-selling product which Archant Suffolk has.

    Support Person of the Year
    Paul Burman, Designer

Paul has been with the company for 38 years, starting as a hot metal apprentice, and is now one of their top designers, working with enthusiasm on awards, events and promotions.

    Unsung Hero of the Year
    Sharon Clark, Photo Reprinter

Sharon has been with the company for 37 years and judges said she had constantly adapted to changes made in the way photos are taken, used and stored.
