Former regional journalist dies at 67 in Bangkok

A former regional press journalist has died at the age of 67 after losing his fight with cancer.

Peter Read started his career in journalism with the Hereford Times and worked at a number of regional newspapers before working for national ones.

He retired to Thailand four years ago and died on Sunday in a Bangkok hospital, with his wife and close friends by his bedside.

Peter, who was born in West Bromwich, joined the Hereford Times as a reporter before moving to the Western Mail, the London Evening Standard and the News of the World.

His career led him to The Sun, where he held various roles, including chief sub-editor in the features department.

Friends and colleagues said he had a tremendous knowledge of people and events, with an ability to remember dates and details, which proved invaluable to his work.
