Editors' chief marks 40 years with sailing fundraiser

Society of Editors boss Bob Satchwell is racing around the Isle of Wight next week to help beat prostate cancer – and mark 40 years in journalism.

The former Cambridge News editor is taking part in the Round the Island Race – the world’s biggest yacht race and the ‘London Marathon’ of UK sailing.

Around 1,800 boats and 6,000 sailors are due to take part in the race, sponsored by JP Morgan Asset Management, which takes place on Saturday.

HTFP readers can help Bob’s fundraising effort by donating via his JustGiving page.

Bob wrote on the page: “As it happens, the race coincides with me celebrating 40 years in journalism – nearly 15 of those at the Cambridge Evening News.

“So to mark that unexpected achievement as well, please help us raise some cash by sponsoring us around the island.”

“As my wife Michele has just retired as chairman of the Friends of Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge we will give the funds to that charity designated to help prostate cancer patients.”

Bob’s crew will include his brother Chris, and two friends, Pete Gibbs and Chris Bull.

Commenting as the Press Officer for the RTI Race I can confirm this year’s entries stand at 1754 and there are more like 16,000 NOT 6,000 sailors taking part! We look forward to welcoming Bob onto the start line.
