Editor prepares for 10-mile run in wife’s memory

The editor of a regional daily will take on the challenge of a 10-mile race on Sunday in memory of his wife who died earlier this year.

Peter Waters, from Archant’s Eastern Daily Press, is taking part in the Great South Run to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support following the death of his wife Tracy, left.

She died of cancer in May at their home in Norfolk at the age of 43 after being diagnosed just seven weeks before.

And Peter decided to run for the cancer charity because of the high standard of care she received – already raising more than £1,300.

He said: “Sadly, such was the advanced nature of the cancer when Tracy was diagnosed, it was unlikely there would be a happy outcome.

“She passed away just seven weeks later, but the palliative care she received in that time was superb, and it’s a comfort to know that she went peacefully, without pain or discomfort, in her sleep, in her bed, at home.”

Tracy was born and raised in Portsmouth, where the Great South Run takes place, and Peter will be running with her brother Neal.

She previously worked for Archant in subscription marketing and on the group’s French magazines before leaving in 2004.
