Daily revamps ents coverage as new pullout

A Midlands daily has relaunched its Friday entertainments coverage as a 12-page pullout after finding readers “didn’t understand” its old title.

The Worcester News previously carried news, listings and advertising in a section that varied between seven and eight pages a week under the heading ‘Unwind.’

The new ‘Leisure’ supplement pulls from the centre of the paper and features a new design and colour scheme.

New content includes an extra page of food and drink material, a clubbing page and DVD and computer game reviews while what’s on listings have been expanded to three pages.

The redesign is the work of sub-editor Ceri Vines with entertainments reporter Lauren Rogers responsible for the revamped content.

Editor Kevin Ward said: “We have changed much of the paper since I arrived here three years ago through a process of evolution rather than revolution.

“The entertainments section was in need of freshening up. Many of our readers and advertisers didn’t really understand the ‘Unwind’ title I’d inherited and some of the content was looking a bit dated.

“We dummied the new supplement so readers and advertisers could see what we were planning before launch.

“We made a few tweaks to our plans as a result of the feedback we got and Leisure has been very well received since we launched.”
