Daily news editor steps up to deputy's role

The news editor of the Nottingham Evening Post has stepped up to the role of deputy editor after the previous incumbent left to become a council spin doctor.

Steven Fletcher, 32, joined the Post eight years ago from the Halifax Courier.

Since then he has held the roles of crime correspondent, assistant news editor and finally news editor.

He replaces Martin Done who quit the paper after 20 years last month for the £71,000-a-year job of communications director at Nottinghamshire County Council.

Post editor Malcolm Pheby said: “I am delighted to announce that Steven Fletcher has been appointed deputy editor of the Nottingham Evening Post.

“Steven will play a major role in leading the content development of the Post, implementing the redesign and setting the editorial strategy of our portfolio.”

Malcolm added that Steven’s successor as news editor will be announced “in due course.”
