Business coverage revamp sparks ad revenue boost

A regional daily is boasting a four-fold increase in advertising revenue from its business supplement following a relaunch.

The Hull Daily Mail is running a new 16-page section every Wednesday called ‘The Business.’

The supplement, the first edition of which is pictured left, has a new design, a higher story count, and claims more ‘entry points’ for readers.

Each week also carries a new ‘Meet the Team’ paid-for advertising feature whereby local companies can showcase themselves and their staff.

Assistant editor Paul Hartley said: “The new supplement has been a terrific team effort by editorial, advertising, marketing and the production hub.

“Business coverage doesn’t have to be dull. We now have a much clearer focus on exclusive content which is relevant and valuable to our local business community and some attractive new platforms for advertisers.

“The first issue has proved a real success, editorially and commercially. The challenge is to build on that success in the coming weeks and months.”

The first edition carried a front-page exclusive by business reporter Catherine Lea about one of the city’s shopping centres signing three new tenants.

The story was also the second most popular article on thisishull.co.uk on launch day.
