Whatever happened to the class of '74?

A former journalism lecturer has added a new group picture to his popular online memoir of his teaching career.

Gerry Kreibich’s ‘memoirs of a pioneer journalism lecturer’ went live at the end of 2006 and has since received almost 18,000 hits, many from his former students at Richmond College, Sheffield.

Now a new group picture – the class of 1973/4 – has been added, and Gerry is hoping that some of the 25 youngsters in the photograph will get in touch.

“All those on the picture will be in their mid-50s by now. I’m still in contact with two or three of them, but it would be great to find out where some of the others have ended up,” he said.

“It’s fascinating to see all those young faces on the screen, and I’m hoping that one or two visitors to the site will say ‘ow, look here – that’s me!’

“I get out-of-the-blue emails from former students from time to time, and it’s great.”

The picture was sent in by Debbie Coxon, who now lives in France. Then Debbie Wilkinson, she was one of the Sheffield Star’s sponsored students at Richmond College, and was later a features sub on The Sun before turning freelance.

She could name only ten people in the photograph, but Gerry was able to fill in the blanks with help from two of Debbie’s old classmates – Gerry Hunt, now foreign editor on the Daily Mail, and Neil Benson, now editorial director of Trinity Mirror Regionals.
