Trinity Mirror secures sale of threatened weekly

Trinity Mirror North West and Wales have finalised a deal to sell the Whitchurch Herald newspaper.

Initially the company planned to close the title along with the Wrexham Chronicle and the Mid-Cheshire Chronicle but discussions began with potential buyers for just the Herald.

North Wales family-run firm NWN Media have now bought the North Shropshire weekly. Two members of staff – one editorial and one advertising – will be transferred with the paper to the new owners.

The first edition under the owners will hit the streets next week.

Carl Wood, publishing director of Trinity Mirror Cheshire, said: “We’re delighted we have been able to negotiate the sale of the Whitchurch Herald title and particularly pleased that this has resulted in the saving of two job roles.”
