Trinity Mirror closes four Midlands newspapers

Four free weekly newspapers owned by Trinity Mirror are to close with their final editions printed last week.

The affected titles are the Black Country Mail Extra, Wolverhampton AdNews, Daventry Post and Ashby Herald.

In the absence of the Extra and AdNews, the company will focus on the Walsall Observer while the Warwickshire and Leamington Times will continue to cover their patch after the closure of the Daventry Post.

Trinity Mirror also has the Ashby Trader and Echo providing coverage for the Leicestershire town after the Herald’s closure.

The company said the decision came following a portfolio review in the light of the current challenging trading conditions.

No redundancies are expected with staff likely to be redeployed to other titles elsewhere in the region.

Last autumn Trinity Mirror shut several of its offices in the region, closed three titles in Long Eaton and sold four Northamptonshire papers to Iliffe News and Media.
