Trinity Mirror has moved to bolster its digital operation by appointing a new regional web publishing director.

Richard Ayres, left, will be part of a central team at Trinity’s Canary Wharf HQ working with the digital teams at the company’s regional centres.

His role will be to work closely with the regional teams to implement digital best practice and develop content and online services to drive usage, audience and online revenues.

Richard has held a number of senior digital roles over the last ten years at BBC News online, Tiscali.co.uk and more recently at digital production agency Magic Lantern.

Chris Bunyan, digital director of Trinity Mirror Regionals, said: “Richard has a first class background in online publishing and I am delighted to welcome him to the team.

“Richard’s experience and expertise will strengthen our digital team and will ensure we continue to deliver and drive compelling online user experiences for this growing audience across our regional websites.”

Richard takes up his new position with immediate effect and will report directly to Mr Bunyan.

In a further appointment, Shaun Collins has joined the company as digital recruitment director.
