Trainee passes shorthand exam – with broken arm

A trainee reporter passed her 100wpm shorthand exam with flying colours – despite having to take the test with a broken arm!

Charlotte Morgan, of the Herts Advertiser, sustained the injury after slipping over on a wet floor the weekend before the exam.

But the 22-year-old, who has been with the Archant Herts and Cambs weekly title for just over a year, was determined to take the test despite being stuck in a fetching blue sling.

She said: “It was a bit tricky putting pressure on the page but I persevered and luckily it all paid off. I’m very happy to have passed and I’ll be baking a left-handed celebratory cake to share with my Herts Ad colleagues!”

Herts Ad editor, Matt Adams, added: “Having seen how much pain Charlotte was in when she first injured her arm, I had no hesitation in sending her home to recover. But she made great improvements in a matter of days, and was determined to take her shorthand exam as planned, even if just for the experience.

“Although I like to have confidence in my staff, I didn’t expect her to be able to perform to the best of her abilities in the actual exam, so I was both therefore proud and delighted to hear that she had actually passed despite her injuries.”
