Tindle imposes group-wide pay freeze

A pay freeze has been imposed across Tindle Newspapers.

Staff were told that any increases, which would normally take affect in April, have been postponed for the foreseeable future.

The privately-owned weekly newspaper publisher follows in the footsteps of similar recent freezes imposed by newspaper publishers such as Archant, Trinity Mirror and Newsquest.

One staff member told HTFP: “We’re all coldly furious that our pay has been effectively cut this year.

“And it’s doubly offensive given that our group’s owner, Sir Ray Tindle, bought five new papers a mere fortnight before coming out with this announcement. We are seriously annoyed about it.”

Company director Wendy Craig said: “We would love to able to continue the increases but it’s just not possible, in common with the rest of the newspaper industry, until we get through this recession. We wish we didn’t have to.”
