Royals reporter returns to old stamping ground

A local press legend is rejoining his old paper as a columnist over seven years after leaving to pursue other interests including local politics.

Clive Baskerville – aka The Hound – worked for 20 years for the then Reading Evening Post, over half of which were spent reporting on Reading FC.

Now the 52-year-old Windsor and Maidenhead borough councillor is signed up again to pen a weekly column and post-match analysis of the Royals’ matches in the Reading Post every Wednesday.

Dedicated Reading FC reporter Jonny Fordham will continue to be the main writer covering the Championship club.

Clive, who lives in Maidenhead, left the Evening Post in February 2002 after joining the title from the Maidenhead Advertiser and is a well-known figure in the Berkshire Town.

As part of a marketing exercise for the Evening Post, Clive’s face was emblazoned across carrier bags along with his nickname.

Thousands of bags were distributed and it was a common site to see shoppers and footballs fans walking through Reading with Clive’s face to hand.
