Reporter's ideas appeal for Fourth Plinth appearance

An innovative arts project will welcome another entry from the local press next month.

One and Other launched on 6 July and offers members of the public a 60-minute slot on Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth.

Ruth Offord, from the Doncaster Free Press, will stand aloft the Plinth at 10am on 18 September and the paper is now appealing for ideas from its readers for what she should do.

Over 30,000 applied to take part in the project but Ruth was one of just 2,400 chosen for the project which runs 24-hours day, for 100 days until 14 October.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I got selected. I only applied on a whim but now I’ve been chosen I’d like to do something unique, so I’m searching for ideas.”

Earlier this month the Loughborough Echo was taken to the capital when one of its readers stood on the plinth and read out stories from that week’s edition and conducted an interview with the weekly.
