Publisher appeals for charity trekkers

A regional publisher is looking for 35 volunteers to climb one of the world’s highest volcanos to raise cash to enable terminally-ill cancer sufferers to be cared for at home.

The KM Group is appealing for listeners to its kmfm radio station to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa to help fund a bid to get more cancer care nurses in Kent

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides free nursing for those who want to be cared for at home at the end of their lives and currently has 26 workers in the county.

Now it wants to raise £239,000 to fund more carers and the KM Group says it hopes to raise a significant portion of that total.

The trek, which takes place between 8 – 17 July 2010, will take participants on a journey above the clouds to the barren lunar landscape of the upper mountain, before a final push to the snow-capped summit.

Among those taking on the challenge will be Steve Fountain, KM Group’s head of radio.

“This expedition will be challenging but an incredibly rewarding experience. If we can raise £130,000 it will mean Marie Curie are over half way to their target and that means more desperately needed nurses for Kent’s terminally ill and their families,” said Steve.

Anyone interested in taking on the challenge who would like to learn more about the trek route, itinerary and requirements is invited to visit kmfm.co.uk for more information.
