Online magazine bids to reach wider audience

A regional online events magazine has launched an interactive widget enabling its content to be viewed on other websites.

SoGlos.com was launched by former Citizen journalist Michelle Byrne and business partner James Fryer in 2007 and now averages 67,000 unique users a month.

The Gloucestershire-based website covers a range of arts and leisure-related content and is updated daily.

The new widgets, pictured left, can be added to other websites or blogging platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and iGoogle, bringing the site’s content to a much wider audience.

Said James: “We developed the widgets after being contacted by a host of local organisations, including hotels, restaurants and attractions in particular, who expressed an interest in using SoGlos.com’s events-specific editorial content to promote tourism in Gloucestershire.

“The new widgets allow us to share SoGlos.com’s content in a controlled and measurable way.”

Although firmly rooted in Gloucestershire, the online magazine’s founders are keen to see their model fulfil its potential in other areas of the UK.

It predicts its new widgets will be embedded on hundreds of websites by the end of 2009.

Very useful indeed. I’m based in Bristol but have seen soglos around and this looks very interesting.
