New senior content editor with Archant Norfolk

Newspaper publisher Archant has appointed a new senior content editor in its Norfolk division.

David Powles is stepping up from his role as news editor of the Norwich Evening News and will lead the new merged editorial operations on the Evening News, Eastern Daily Press and their sister websites and weeklies.

He will work alongside Archant Norfolk’s other senior content editor Peter Hannam and report to the EDP editor Peter Waters and Evening News editor Tim Williams, both of whom also recently stepped up into their roles.

This latest move comes after the recent departure of Paul Durrant who was assistant editor of the EDP and later senior content editor with Archant Norfolk.

A statement from Archant said: “David has been working as a content editor for the past two months and has successfully been helping lead the change to a merged news team and implementation of new working practices and multimedia planning.”

David said: “I’m really pleased to have been given the opportunity to help lead the editorial team into our new era.

“I think we have a highly-talented, hard-working and motivated team right across Archant Norfolk and I am looking forward to working with everyone over the forthcoming months and years.”

Tim Williams added: “As former Evening News news editor and, more recently, a content editor in the merged Archant Norfolk editorial operation, David has demonstrated a clear understanding of our objectives and ambitions with all our newspapers and websites.

“His enthusiasm and ability to help lead our team of journalists will be crucial as we adapt to new ways of working in a rapidly changing media environment.”

David has been in journalism for eight years and was previously chief reporter with the Burton Mail and a journalist with the Lancashire Evening Post and its sister weekly The Reporter.
