New-look website for Suffolk daily

Ipswich daily the Evening Star is sporting a new-look website.

The Archant Suffolk title’s EveningStar24 site has undergone a wholesale makeover and now uses the same template as the Green’Un24 local football website which was launched last August.

Sister morning title the East Anglian Daily Times is also expected to have the new-look within the coming weeks but it is not known if similar relaunch plans exist for other Archant divisions.

Archant Suffolk’s online news editor Mark Heath said: “The main thing we’ve brought in is the concept of online editions.

“We’ve now have four editions during the day – 6am is daybreaker, 9am is the AM edition, midday is PM and at 3pm there’s the Home Run.

“The idea of that is to let people know there’s going to be changes at these times, like having four editions of a paper.

“The website also looks more attractive and uses video a lot more.

“There are various different sections such as ‘Fightback’, the campaign to highlight positive news in the area, particularly business news.”

What’s On is now carrying movie trailers and the site has a more compact look compared to its predecessor with a navigation bar across the top instead of a column menu down the side.

Reader interaction is also boosted through a new comment facility listing the 20 most recent user comments posted on the site so visitors can see what is drawing people in and sparking debate.
