Just Champion as daredevil stunt raises £1,000

A team of local newspaper daredevils set their sights high by taking part in a zip wire stunt off Runcorn Bridge in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The intrepid volunteers from the Southport-based Champion Newspaper Group raised more than £1,000 for the charity.

Managing director Betty Drummond said: “As a local newspaper, we often report on the remarkable people in our community who do weird and wonderful things to raise vital money for charities but when we heard about this stunt, members of the Champion team decided to get involved.

“We had a great day with a great result, and are all very proud to have raised well over £1,000, with more to come, for the Anthony Nolan Trust.”

The Champion Newspaper Group has five weekly titles, covering Southport, Formby, Ormskirk, Skelmersdale and the recently launched Aintree and Maghull edition.
