Journalism lecturer hits £10,000 fundraising target

A university journalism lecturer has succeeded in his mission to raise £10,000 towards an autism project.

Dave Welford, who teaches newspaper journalism at Nottingham Trent University, walked 33.3 across the Derbyshire countryside in June with his autistic son.

His target of £10,000, which has been reached with the help of gift aid, will go towards building a garden centre and café run by autistic school-leavers.

Liverpool Echo feature writer Greg O’Keefe has ghost-written a book about Liverpool fan Michael Shields and his imprisonment in Bulgaria.

The book, called ‘My Story’, is out now published by Trinity Mirror Sport Media and has been serialised in the Echo.

It tells the story of what happened to Mr Shields following Liverpool’s Champions League victory in Istanbul in May 2005 when he was jailed for attempted murder and eventually pardoned last month.


Awards celebrating the best in Celtic media are now open for entries.

There are 19 different categories up for grabs as part of the Celtic Media Festival, taking place from 21 to 23 April next year, in Newry, Northern Ireland.

Submissions are welcome from any of the Celtic nations/regions – Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – or elsewhere provided it relates to one of the above regions.

The National Union of Journalists is to set up a branch for photographers who live or work in London.

It will be the first time members have been organised into a section related to their specific jobs rather than the sector of the industry they work in.

The switch was approved at the NUJ’s nation executive meeting last week.

Photographers in London have the choice of transferring to the new branch or staying in their current branch.
