Hospital radio journalist takes on might of BBC

A hospital radio journalist is up against the relative might of a BBC local radio station in the race for a top regional broadcasting award.

The shortlist for the four broadcasting categories for the EDF Energy South West Media Awards is published here today, following the newspaper shortlist published on Tuesday.

It throws up an intriguing contest for Radio Journalist of the Year between Josie Scobling, of Hospital Radio Plymouth, and BBC Radio Bristol’s Nigel Dando and Robin Markwell.

The BBC also dominates the Television Journalist of the Year category with three nominations, but independent broadcasters are more strongly represented in the Radio and TV Current Affairs Programme categories.

The EDF Energy South West Media Awards cover Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. The awards ceremony is being held on 4 June at Plymouth Pavilions.
