Freelance journalist found dead in his home

A freelance journalist and sub-editor was found dead in his home.

Gerard Martin Phelan, who was known to friends and colleagues as Ged, was 58.

He was based in the Worcestershire town of Bewdley and worked for, among others, the Kidderminster Shuttle as a freelance sub-editor.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by Worcestershire Coroner. It is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.


Two reporters from the Daily Record have completed an Ironman triathlon in Barcelona.

Mark McGivern finished the course in 10hrs 37mins while James Moncur came home in 11hrs 19mins.

An Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and finishes with a full marathon.

Judges said Paul did “a fantastic job of organising a wealth of articles and other information into easy to follow sections”.
