Former PA picture editor dies aged 78

Former picture editor of the Press Association Paddy Hicks has died at the age of 78.

Paddy began his career in regional newspapers and was picture editor of the Evening Post at Reading when it was first launched by Lord Thomson in 1965.

He left to join PA as assistant picture editor before being promoted to picture editor, remaining in the post until his retirement 20 years ago.

He died at his home in Emmer Green, Reading, following a heart attack.

Paddy leaves two children, a son, Simon, and daughter, Nicola. His wife Audrey died a couple of years ago following a long illness.

His funeral takes place on 20 January at Henley Road Crematorium, Caversham, Reading, at 12 noon.
