Former news editor does something funny for money

The world of online social networking is being used by a former regional press news editor to raise money for Comic Relief.

Linda Jones co-founded the TwitterTitters project which has used micro-blogging site Twitter to bring together the mirthful musings of comedians and writers for a new book.

Among those lending their support to the project are Phoenix Nights star Dave Spikey and Nat Coombs, writer of online comedy phenomenon Chelsey OMG!.

Dave submitted a previously unseen story for the collection, an excerpt from his upcoming book while Nat has written a foreword.

Linda, who was news editor for both the Worcester News and Express and Star, said: “Me and another journalist got it into our heads to do something for this month’s Comic Relief by collecting together unseen comedy writing.

“I wanted to find a home for some short stories and also different styles of writing.

“Dave Spikey is in there which is fantastic as he has such a high profile while Nat Coombs is really hot property as well.”

The project’s organisers received over 70 entries for the book including monologues, poems, short stories and blog posts.

Linda now runs her own copy writing and PR agency in Staffordshire and has previously published a book drawing on her own freelance experiences to help journalists thinking of going it alone.

  • The book costs £4.99 to download an electronic version or £9 in paperback from lulu.com with proceeds going to Red Nose Day.
