Ex-picture editor's exhibition goes on show

An exhibition of work by former Liverpool Daily Post and Echo picture editor Stephen Shakeshaft goes on display later this month.

The show features a selection of his portraits and candid shots of the people of Liverpool.

It runs from 18 September to 24 January at the National Conservation Centre, in Liverpool – more details available here.


Katie Campling is the new deputy news editor of the Peterborough-based Evening Telegraph.

She took over the role after spending six years with the Huddersfield Daily Examiner as a news reporter, music writer and on the features desk.


Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow is giving a free lecture next month at Coventry Cathedral.

The broadcaster is doing it as part of his new role as visiting professor at Coventry University.

The speech is entitled ‘The Best and Worst of Times: Who Would be a Journalist in the Second Decade of the 21st Century?’. It starts at 10am on 15 October.


The Royal Geographical Society is offering one lucky up-and-coming journalist a £4,000 grant to record a documentary for Radio 4.

Last year’s winner travelled to the Carteret Islands, off the coast of Papua New Guinea, to report on people being evacuated because of climate change.

Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger has received an honorary degree from the University of Lincoln.

Alan has been editor of the national title for 14 years and described the centre’s journalism department as a trailblazer.
