Evening Post launches more hyper-local websites

The Nottingham Evening Post is continuing the expansion of its online presence with the addition of more hyper-local news portals.

Its website www.thisisnottingham.co.uk now has 72 dedicated mini sites covering Nottinghamshire after the project was initially launched last August.

Visitors are able to choose whether to view news from the whole of Nottinghamshire or just articles from a particular neighbourhood and, while they all sit within the thisisnottingham.co.uk umbrella site, each hyper-local site has its own domain name, such as thisisbottesford.co.uk.

News is sorted automatically into the relevant channel by postcode and keywords within articles.

Deputy editor Martin Done said: “This gives our visitors a way of filtering the news that is specific to their communities.

“These sites will be places where people can meet online and discuss news relevant to their districts.”

hopefully a social world around these sites will be built – people get a bit titillated when the realise they are talking to people just a few streets away.

Pity the Evening Post didn’t have the same spirit this
Monday when it dismissed 40
owner drivers as part of its
cost cutting program!
