Editor prepares to lose Glastonbury virginity

A regional editor is preparing to lose his virgnity at the age of 45 – his Glastonbury virginity, that is.

Sam Holliday, editor of the Bath Chronicle, is to attend the world-famous music festival for the first time this weekend.

The self-confessed “music nut,” who actually organised rock festivals in his younger days, admits the charms of Glastonbury have never tempted him before now.

But Sam says the inclusion of 80s superstar Bruce Springsteen on this year’s bill has finally persuaded him to break his duck.

Writing on his blog, Bath’s Big ‘Ed, he says: “The fact I have waited so long to partake in the Glasto mud is not because I’m averse to music or indeed festivals – far from it.

“As some people know I’m a complete music nut. And yet, for some reason, the charms of Glastonbury and the like have never particularly tempted me – until now.

“I have been pondering a visit to Somerset’s most famous farm for a couple of years but it was only when I started hearing the mere hint of a two-word rumour – ‘Bruce Springsteen’ – that I thought I simply could avoid the Glastonbury temptress no more.

“I adore Springsteen and the thought of not seeing him practically in the backyard was unbearable. So, Glastonbury here I come.”

Sam will be accompanied at his first ‘Glasto’ by his 15-year-old son, Ollie, who he says is “far more practical than me.”

And with fine weather forecast, it is unlikely they will be wading through thigh-high mud or seeing their “dodgy pop-up tent” float away down the hill.
