Conference for experimenters in journalism

A conference is being hosted next month for experimenters in journalism. The event on 8 May is aimed at anyone interested in news, from entrepreneurs to bloggers, developers and those involved in social media.

It is described as an “unconference” meaning there is no set agenda or long list of guest speakers.

The Journal, sister lifestyle magazine to the Hull Daily Mail, has launched a companion website.

eastridingjournal.co.uk will carry features, food and wine columns and high-society pictures. The Journal magazine has been running for 20 years.


The Bishop of Lincoln, the Right Reverend Dr John Saxbee, has praised the Lincolnshire Echo’s ‘Bites Back’ campaign in the pages of The Guardian.

The national newspaper printed a letter from the reverend explaining how the campaign was playing a positive role in daily life.

“I see the campaign as an extension of that mood and we can ride out this recession and come out stronger,” he told the Echo.


The 37th annual World Magazine Congress is set to take place from 4 to 6 May in London.

More than 60 executives and business leaders from across the world are expected at the event with guest speakers including Felix Dennis, chairman of magazine company Dennis Publishing, Guardian Media Group chief executive Carolyn McCall and Christie Hefner, former chairman and CEO of Playboy Enterprises.

The University of Stirling’s film, media and journalism department has won the 2009 business communication school of the year (international) award from the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).

There were 108 nominations for the awards which was presented to the university by BS Yeddyurappa, the chief minister of Karnataka, a region of India with a population of 53m.

The PRCI is the national body of communication, media, advertising and PR professionals for India.
