York journalism students fare well in awards shortlist

The University of York has featured heavily again in the annual Guardian Student Media Awards.

The scheme, which has proved a great platform for the journalists of tomorrow including former FT editor Andrew Gowers, features ten entries from the Yorkshire centre in its shortlist.

At last year’s event York walked away with seven prizes including newspaper of the year for ‘York Vision’ and journalist of the year for Heidi Blake who won a six-week placement at the Guardian.

There are 13 categories and prizes include cash and work experience at the Guardian and Sky News as well as the chance to become an NME blogger.

The gongs are being handed out at the awards ceremony in London on November 26. The Guardian Student Media Conference is also being held the same day.
