Tributes paid to stalwart weekly editor

Tributes have been paid to a long-serving weekly newspaper editor who is taking early retirement following the shake-up at Trinity Mirror North West.

As reported on HoldtheFrontPage last week, Jane Daly is to step down as group editor of Trinity’s Merseyside Weeklies series after more than 40 years with the company.

Jane, who is also editor of the Southport Visiter, marked 25 years as a local newspaper editor this week.

Under her stewardship, the Visiter and its staff have won a number of awards, including the BNFL North West paid-for Newspaper of the Year and the Newspaper Society Newspaper Campaigning Award.

Trinity Mirror Merseyside managing director Sara Wilde said: “Jane has been a stalwart of the operation in that time, developing the weekly brands to marketplace leadership and mentoring numerous journalists into executive roles.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jane for her excellent service and for the expertise and unparalleled passion she has shown towards her weekly titles.”

Jane will remain in post over the coming weeks pending the appointment of her replacement.

The shake-up announced last week, which will result in the loss of 43 posts from the current 175-strong Merseyside team, is due to take effect in February.
