Switch to weekly printing for Somerset newspaper

The West Somerset Post is now publishing weekly after a surge in demand for the paper.

Formerly known as The Crier, it printed monthly for 13 years before switching its name and to a fortnightly print run last summer.

It also now appears in a slightly larger tabloid size page than previously. The paper covers the Exmoor area of West Somerset.

Editor John Thorne said: “We have advanced the publication day from a Saturday to a Thursday which has necessitated a switch of printers away from Newsquest in Weymouth to Harmsworth in Plymouth in order to find a printing slot.

“We have become weekly in order to meet the demand in an area which has traditionally seen a Tindle Newspapers hold on advertisers.

“We remain a free newspaper which is picked up by readers from retail distribution points across the area.

“We have also recently extended our circulation area and now include the westernmost areas of Taunton Deane and Sedgemoor, which have an affinity with West Somerset and Exmoor.”
