Seven-figure investment sets Trinity Mirror Midlands titles on new design path

A million pound investment by Trinity Mirror is set to transform that way that journalists design its local newspapers across the Midlands.

The Birmingham Post was today using the new Adobe InDesign package on some of its pages for the first time.

The move comes after intensive training at all levels and will soon spread to its sister titles, the Sunday Mercury and Birmingham Mail.

Some sub-editors have already been trained up to use the new process to produce the company’s magazines with a view to training all staff by the summer.

Post editor Marc Reeves said: “We are now at the point of introducing the page make up side of things.

“It’s quite a major project for Trinity Mirror, certainly costing in the millions.

“We’re quite a big organisation so we’re taking it in bite-sized chunks.

“We’ve already trained our magazine guys and the supplements are now working in InDesign. “

The sister newspapers are expected to be fully operational on the new system by the end of July.
