Reporters and MSPs fail to finish 'friendly' football match

A football match between sports journalists and Scottish politicians had to be abandoned after a face off between the two teams.

Sunday’s game at the Lesser Hampden ground, in Glasgow, was meant to be a friendly between the MSPs and hacks from the Scottish Football Writers’ Association.

But a flying tackle by John Park MSP floored BBC pundit Chick Young, forcing him out of the game and sparking a near brawl, reports The Herald.

The Glasgow daily also says that city councillor George Redmond is alleged to have run up the pitch for an exchange with Radio Clyde’s Peter Martin.

The referee, used to overseeing under-10s match, called a halt to proceedings after 55 minutes with score at 6-2 to the politicians.

Also taking part in the game were writers from the Daily Record, Sunday Post and The Herald.

The match was on Sunday, but the report of it being abandoned did not appear until midweek. And it involved journalists?!! Hardly on the ball.
