Press photographer injured in football ground dugout

A press photographer got more than she bargained for when a tackle on a football pitch ended up in the dugout where she was taking pictures.
The tackle by Ipswich Town player Danny Haynes in the match against Plymouth Argyle ended in him accidentally crashing into the referee’s assistant, who in turn fell into the pit where Colchester Gazette photographer Louise Morris was taking pictures. She was treated in hospital for bruising to her head and elbow.
She said: “He ended up upside down, as if he had sat down on a chair which had no seat in it, with his legs hanging out of the pit, and I was knocked back and to the side with my legs pinned under him.”

The National Union of Journalists has expressed concern over the proposed closure of Irish language newspaper Lá Nua. The NUJ said the current crisis stems partly from a withdrawal of funding by Foras na Gaeilge, the body responsible for promoting the Irish language.
Lá Nua has been running for 24 years and ten journalists are facing redundancy under the proposals.
