Picture editor laid off just weeks into new job

A former picture editor of the Sunday Herald has been made redundant by her new employer just weeks after starting work.

Emily Bevan-Pritchard left the Glasgow weekly to become the new picture editor of photo agency Epicscotland.

Together with photographer Chris James, Emily was laid off by the agency because of the downturn in the media industry.

She was previously with the Newsquest-owned title for four-and-a-half years and before that was picture editor of the Sunday Times Scotland.

Epicscotland owner Ashley Coombes said: “Unfortunately, I have had to restructure the business and laid them both off.

“It’s been a combination of the economy and the downturn in newspapers and general editorial work.

“Those things combined have made the climate very hard to operate in. I’m hoping to get things back on course next year.”

Epicscotland, running since 2001, employs Graham Hamilton to cover Edinburgh while Ashley looks after the Glasgow patch.
