Photographer's shots of the Far East on show at new exhibition

Artistic pictures from the Far East will be on show at a press photographer’s fourth solo exhibition.

Chris Etchells, from the Gainsborough Standard, has visited Beijing and Hong Kong twice in the past 16 months and strived to capture day-to-day life in the Oriental cities.

The collection contains snapshots of the people, buildings and sights in the Far East.

The six-week exhibition, to be held in the town’s arts centre, coincides with the theme of the annual Riverside Festival in June – ‘Gainsborough Goes Oriental’.

Chris, who has worked at the standard for nine years, said: “I do a lot of travel stuff, mainly around Europe but also New York, Hong Kong and quite a bit in Paris and Western Isles in Scotland.

“I have a passion for travel as well, learning about the different lifestyles.

“Beijing is a fascinating place, so mad and crazy yet the people were friendly and inquisitive.

“I am really happy with the new work and I am looking forward to people coming and seeing the pictures.”

Chris has taken part in 12 exhibitions since 2004 in Gainsborough and around the UK and has also exhibited work in Colorado.

He was crowned the Professional Photographer Magazine travel photographer of the year in 2006 and the 29-year-old has also won a bronze medal at the Venice International Photo Contest.

The exhibition runs at the Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough, from April 29 to June 7.
