New online award in human rights journalism celebration

Entries are now open for the 17th annual Amnesty International UK Media Awards to celebrate human rights journalism.

And this year’s awards feature a new category for online journalism.

Amnesty’s media director Mike Blakemore said: “The Amnesty International UK Media Awards have grown in prestige and stature.

“We want to acknowledge the important work of the growing number of journalists publishing their work on the web.

“A wide range of material can be entered for the new media category: any journalistic content appearing for the first time on a UK-based website, covering news, blogs, features and comment or debate, audio and visual material.”

Entries must have been published or broadcast for the first time between March 30, 2007, and March 24 this year.

The closing date for submissions is March 31 and entries can be submitted online. The awards ceremony will be held in June in London.
