Memorial service for former newspaper executive

A thanksgiving service will be held tomorrow for the former president of the Newspaper Society.

Christopher Dicks served as president of the NS in its 150th year, in 1986, and was also chairman of the Press Association and National Council for the Training of Journalists.

He died suddenly while on holiday in New Zealand visiting his daughter, aged 77.

Christopher joined the Huddersfield Daily Examiner in 1951 and worked as general manager and director before becoming managing director in 1974.

He retired in 1995 and was honoured a year later by the Queen with an OBE for his services to newspapers.

You can add your memories of Christopher at Lasting Tribute.
