Late press run to cover guilty verdict in prostitute murder trial

The Evening Star is running late presses to capture the verdicts from the Suffolk murder trial.

The five guilty verdicts on Steve Wright were broken on the paper’s website at 2.25pm today after the late edition press had already started.

The print room replated the newspaper to carry the verdict for tonight’s edition.

An extra 5,000 copies are being printed to cater for the expected interest in the story.

Editor Nigel Pickover told holdthefrontpage: “We were the first to break the verdict on our SMS (text message) service.

“And we’ve had line by line coverage of the trial on our website.

“In tomorrow’s paper we will have a 32-page supplement containing everything from the trial. It will be the dog’s bollocks.”

Reporters at the Evening Star and the East Anglian Daily Times – who work from the same Ipswich office – have been working flat out to cover the trial of Steve Wright.

The papers have joined forces and dispatched four reporters to court to provide rolling copy for the two websites and newspapers.
