Kent title persuades PM to answer reader questions

Kent on Sunday assistant editor Jamie McGinnes has met Gordon Brown to hand over a list of questions from readers.

He went to Downing Street on Wednesday afternoon, where the PM was running late after Prime Minister’s Questions and was due to meet with the EU president.

The PM still found time to pose for photographer Huw Powell and exchange a few words with Jamie.

Mr Brown’s spokespeople said he spent some time on Thursday evening finishing his answers to the paper’s questions.

The first batch of answers was published in the latest edition of Kent on Sunday.

The initiative was dreamt up by Jamie, who had originally approached Downing Street for an interview when Mr Brown became PM.

He didn’t have time, but said he would be happy to answer a series of questions.

KoS asked readers to sent their questions in. The paper received more than a hundred.

Editor Bernard Ginns said: “This was a very worthwhile exercise. Our readers were able to communicate directly with the Prime Minister, and for Mr Brown, he was able to respond to a sample of the concerns of our large readership in Kent.”

The second and final set of answers will be published in this weekend’s paper.
