Journalists sought for new activities website

A new website about adventure pursuits and activities which offers bylines to trainee journalists and photographers has gone live.

www.clocking-off.com has reviews and features about activity centres both in the UK and abroad and is keen to hear from anyone wishing to see their byline on the web.

Activities are grouped into three categories; feeling adventurous, just want to get out, and spot of culture.

The project is the brainchild of web designer Robert Ede.

He said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the site ahead of its launch but it has all been worth it now it is up and running.

“We’ve had a fair amount of interest in the website already and we are delighted to have Parkour specialists 3RUN Ltd on board.

“These guys are the best free runners in the world and have been involved in some massive projects including James Bond Casino Royale.

“This is only the beginning. Over the next few months we aim to expand the site into the most comprehensive database of activity ideas on the internet.

“We are always looking for writers and photographers to contribute.

“Unfortunately, we are not yet in a position to offer payment but all work will be fully accredited and we hope to take on journalists and photographers in the future.”

Anyone wishing to contribute to the site can e-mail their ideas to [email protected].

God, the need for clips, if even e-mail clips, when someon e steps into our strange craft.
But as someone who has worked for two national newspapers in his many years in the game can tell you, clips are near worthless for getting worthwhile jobs.
What any interviewer will want to know is : Who suggested the story.
How was the story in raw form before a sub had a hand in brightening it up, legalling it, taking away the daftness ?
I know the temptation to think it could be a start in the craft.
But does anyone really think that newsdesks, either on the weeklies, the regionals or the nationals ever read bylines unless they kniow the reporter/photographer involved ?
For , having been involved on newsdesk on all three, I can tell you the answer is nay.
Sorry
