Editor joins independent review of 30-year rule

The Newspaper Society has been invited to contribute to the independent review of the ’30 year rule’, chaired by Paul Dacre, editor-in-chief of Associated Newspapers, at the invitation of the Prime Minister.
The review is considering whether 30 years is the right period for government documents to be kept closed (subject to requests made under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act), or whether they should be made generally available to the public earlier through swifter transfer to the National Archives.


Adam Woodruff has been promoted to the position of operations director at Archant Print, covering production and maintenance at both the Ipswich and Thorpe Print centres.
Adam joined Archant in August 2007 as plant manager having previously worked with the Ipswich team in an interim capacity. He has worked in the newspaper industry since leaving school, serving his apprenticeship with press manufacturer Goss.

Trinity Mirror plc has announced the acquisition of The Career Engineer Limited, an online job board specialising in the engineering profession.
It was acquired for an initial consideration of £1.9m and a deferred consideration of up to £400k, which is wholly conditional on the achievement of specified operating targets over the next 12 months. The Career Engineer Limited is expected to generate revenues of over £500k in its first year of ownership.


A regional press editorial reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been held at No 10 Downing Street.
The event was attended by editors and London political editors from a number of regional press publishing groups.
