District pages to go in newspaper reshuffle

The Lincolnshire Echo will be closing its Gainsborough edition from June.

The district pages are currently written by reporter Chris Hall from the Northcliffe title’s head office in Lincoln.

He will instead move to the Echo’s Retford office where he will write for the Echo’s free weekly sister title, the Gainsborough Target.

Chris will also continue to contribute bigger stories to the daily Lincolnshire Echo and the Target will remain free.

Lincolnshire Media’s managing director Mark Price said: “The main reasons are that I don’t feel we have enough focus in the Gainsborough area by doing what we’ve been doing with the Gainsborough Echo.

“There are also some cost implications with the presses.

“The Gainsborough Target will carry much more quality news for the Gainsborough area.

“There will still be some editorial in the Echo about Gainsborough.

“There will be no job losses. Chris, who is moving across to Retford, is supportive and happy about doing so. He’s fully on board.

“We will focus more of his time on the Gainsborough Target but when there’s a story that warrants coverage in the Echo he will send that through.”
