Prince Charles and London Mayor Boris Johnson have both written in support of dying Huddersfield Daily Examiner reporter Adrian Sudbury.
Adrian’s colleagues at the Trinity Mirror daily wrote to Clarence House asking if Prince Charles would support their ‘Sign up for Sudders’ campaign, calling for compulsory bone marrow education in sixth form colleges.
Adrian, 27, who has been battling leukaemia since November 2006, has been raising awareness of bone marrow donation since discovering his illness was terminal in May.
The Examiner wrote to Clarence House to ask if Prince Charles would offer his personal support and whether the Prince’s Trust charity could become involved.
Clarence House said that while the prince couldn’t support the campaign directly, it might be possible that the Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health could help.
“His Royal Highness is grateful to you for taking the trouble to let him know about this inspirational young man and the campaign,” the letter said.
“The Prince of Wales hopes that your campaign is a great success and will pray for Adrian as he continues his battle.”
The Examiner also asked Boris Johnson’s office if it would circulate a link to their petition on the Downing Street website which closed recently.
In a written response, the mayor said: “Adrian Sudbury is a courageous man who has conducted an amazing bone marrow donation awareness campaign while battling his own cancer.
“Adrian’s positive work has helped dispel the myths about donating bone marrow, which will help save thousands of lives.”
