David Beckham has helped a local newspaper website score an impressive tally of video views, thanks to an advert he filmed on the Isles of Scilly.

thisiscornwall.co.uk was the only regional news site to obtain footage from the new Adidas commercial, which sent Becks to train youngsters on the island. With just two teams on the island, they make up the smallest football league in the world.

The selection of clips, showing advert variations and an interview with the former England captain – have so far accounted for a whopping 80 per cent of video views in the ten days since they were uploaded.

The online platform for The Cornishman had originally covered the football star’s visit to Scilly back in November, when it broke the story on its site.

A user generated content appeal on the homepage at the time of the visit meant it had a selection of reader pictures to add to its own come publication day.
